To determine the most cost-effective hotel elite status programs, we compared their value-to-cost ratio at entry-level, mid-level and high-tier status levels. We calculated how much it cost us both in bonus points and status level to earn those benefits; taking into account both bonuses and status level requirements when making our calculation. World of Hyatt emerged as an overall winner, followed by Hilton Honors and Marriott (though without including their ultra-level status tiers due to difficulty of comparison). Hilton Honors and IHG allow status matches or challenges so that we could attempt to capture top loyalty status from them for ourselves!

In order to assess which elite tiers were worth attaining and which should be avoided we conducted an intensive analysis on seven hotel brands’ loyalty programs.
