How to Make a Money Bag From Fabric – 4 Steps Guide

Make a money bag out of fabric? Of course you can! They can be used for so many different things, and they’re super easy to make.

Using fabric as a money bag is especially practical because it’s a great way to keep your change. You can stuff your money into a money bag and not have to worry about counting it out all the time.

If you have lots of change or are just a frugal person, why not make your own money bag? You can use it for a variety of things, from storing coins to hiding money for a rainy day.

What You’ll Need

  • Fabric for the money bag
  • Scissors
  • Crochet Hook (Size G or H)
  • Yarn
  • Stem Stabilizer

You can use any kind of fabric you want. You can use just about any kind of fabric, but we’re going to be weaving a money bag out of canvas.

This is a great way to recycle some fabric, and it’s also what makes the money bag more durable. We’re also going to be using a stem stabilizer in the money bag body, so make sure you have that on hand.

If you’re going to make a money bag, you may as well make one with a cute template. Luckily, making a template is super easy.

You can either print out the template above or draw one out with a pencil. You’ll need a template that’s big enough for the canvas you’re using.

This will be the same size as the canvas you’ll be using to stuff the money bag. Finish Stitching the Template

Once you have your template, stitch it onto the canvas you’re using. This will help keep all of the pieces of fabric in their place, and it will also make it easier to take it off when you’re done.

If you stitched the template onto the wrong side of the canvas, all you have to do is tease the thread off when you’re done.

Elastic Band

The next thing you’ll need is an elastic band. This is going to serve as the drawstring on the bag, so you’ll need one that’s strong enough to hold up the money bag and the canvas inside.

You can get a band like this, or you can find another way to make one. You can probably find an old drawstring or use a shoelace.

This will also make it a little easier to take the bag off, so it makes sense to make it as easy to take off as possible.

Stem Stabilizer

The last thing you’ll need is a stem stabilizer. This is what’s going to keep the canvas from unraveling when you weave it.

The stabilizer we’re using is simple and is just a piece of strong tape, but you can use other things, too. You can find a stem stabilizer at just about any craft store.

You don’t have to use tape, though. You could use another type of string or even a zip tie. A zip tie would be best for a money bag that will be seeing a lot of wear, though.

It would be best to use something that’s going to hold up well over time.

Crocheting Hook

Once you have all your supplies, you’re ready to make your own money bag. Before we get to that, you’ll need a crochet hook.

If you’ve never made a fabric money bag before, you may not know what kind of hook to get (or what size to get).

You can use any hook you have in your house, but it’s probably a good idea to get a hook that’s just a little bit bigger than you think you’d like to use.

Yarn For the Money Bag Body

The money bag body in the tutorial is made of yarn, and we recommend using this yarn.

It’s great because it comes in a variety of colors, and it’s also a yarn that’s a little bit thinner than most yarns.

This will make it easier to stuff the money bag and keep it as compact as possible.

Step One: Print the Template

First, print out the template. Then, cut it out.

Step Two: Cut Fabric

Once you have the template cut out, you can start cutting your fabric. You’ll need a piece about two inches longer than your canvas and just a little bit wider than your canvas.

You can use two pieces of any type of fabric you want. Make sure that you’re paying attention to the grain of the fabric. Make sure that the fabric you use has a nice, consistent grain.

Weave the Fabric Through the Stem

Next, you’re going to want to weave the fabric through the stem. To do this, start at one end of the canvas and weave the fabric through the stem.

Then, take the other side and weave it through the stem. Keep weaving until you’ve made a full circle.

Finish the Money Bag

Once you’ve woven the canvas through the stem, you can simply tie it off. Tie a knot in the end of the canvas so that it won’t come undone.

You can tie a knot that’s just a little bit bigger than you think you’d like to make it a bit neater. It’s up to you.

Tips and Warnings

  • Make sure that you’re paying attention to the grain when you’re cutting the fabric. This will make it a little bit easier to keep track of your pieces.
  • Make sure to tie off the canvas before you tie off the knot. If you don’t tie off the canvas, you’re going to have a really hard time taking the money bag off.
  • Make sure to use a yarn that’s a little bit thinner than most yarns. This is going to help to keep the money bag as compact as possible.

Now that you know how to make a money bag with fabric, you can go ahead and make your own. It’s super easy, and it’s also a great way to keep your change.

You can use it to store coins, or you can simply use it as a place to hide money in your house.

It’s a great way to help you keep your money organized, and it’s also a great way to use up some of your old fabric.
